June 1st - Brockley Max 2019 Presents:Rodney Cromwell and Sweet Machine
FREE ENTRY - Join us for an evening of the finest Synthpop sounds in South East London and beyond!
Rodney Cromwell, Catford’s only exponent of indie pound-shop synthpop, evocative sound looks to the proto-electronica of the 70’s and 80’s to construct a twisted soundtrack for the post-truth world. Sonically his music sits somewhere between Kraftwerk, New Order and The Cure, and contemporary synth acts such as Black Marble and Advisory Circle.
Rodney Cromwell is the project of Adam C Cresswell founder member of folktronica band SALOON who were John Peel darlings; they recorded three Peel Sessions, had four Festive 50 hits including the number one in 2002 and released three albums on Track & Field (UK) and Darla Records (US). He followed Saloon with Arthur and Martha the acclaimed tweetronica duo as featured by The Guardian, NME, Artrocker and others.
He returned to music in 2015 with the album 'Age of Anxiety' which was a slow-burning critical hit and, as Rodney Cromwell, he has been featured by NME, Electronic Sound Magazine, Huffington Post, BBC 6 Music and many more. He was named 'Most Promising New Act' by The Electricity Club and 'Barry was an arms dealer' featured in the 2015 Official Festive 50 on Dandelion Radio. He has appeared on a number of prominent compilations alongside artists including Cavern of Anti-matter, John Foxx, Devo, Erasure, OMD, and Katy Perry.
Happy Robots Records
The best synthpop band you’ve never heard of? Embracing 70‘s, 80’s and contemporary electronic musical influences Sweet Machine craft danceable, melodic, electro pop songs with thoughtful, bittersweet lyrics.
They have recorded two albums, ‘Electric Soup’ and ’1979’ with a new EP ‘Silver’ due for release this summer. Their live set includes a mixture of tracks from both albums plus new material. Live appearances have included Brockley Max (with Kumo) and The Frome Festival in 2018, support slots for Huey Morgan and Gene Serene (The Frixion), along with their own ‘Electrofied’ events where they have performed along side Laugh Clown Laugh, STEREO KELA, Mëi INVADR, Lorenz Attraction & Vida Futura.
