EDINBURGH PREVIEWS: OMID DJALILI & CHRISTOPHER BLISS

Omid Djalili (Work in Progress)

Legendary festival favourite, stand-up comedian, film and television star Omid Djalili returns for eight shows only. Intelligent, sometimes provocative and always entertaining. His stand-up is a hugely energetic and captivating comedy masterclass. Multi award-winner and as seen in Mamma Mia 2 and on Celebrity Apprentice. Soon to be seen in His Dark Materials. ‘Did someone say national treasure?’ (Metro). 'One of the most joyfully smart, stimulating and entertaining comedians this country has' (Telegraph). 'Belly laughs with a subtle blend of mainstream gags and subversive twinkle' (Sunday Times).

Christopher Bliss: The Man Who Turns Wives Into Widows (Preview)

Rob Carter’s cult hit creation is back with a glossy revamp of his 2016 debut show. Christopher Bliss is Shropshire’s greatest drivel-merchant. He’s tackled novels, he’s conquered theatre, now he’s back to show you his most ambitious project: live cinema. This is an action-packed tale of wives, widows and everything in-between. As seen on Siblings (BBC), Peep Show and Fresh Meat (Channel 4). 'This is how character comedy should be done' **** (Chortle.co.uk). EDINBURGH PREVIEWS: JOHN HASTINGS & DAISY EARL

John Hastings: 10 John Hastings I Hate About You (Preview)

Comedy Central's John Hastings started from the bottom (Canada), then moved to the bottom (Britain) and has found a new bottom (America). Currently bottoming out, John is back to talk about the highs (read: none) and lows (read: many) of the past year. From losing his grandfather to open relationships to borrowing money from his mom, come watch John hit rock-bottom both figuratively and literally in his dream basement venue. TW(ats welcome): Mega LOLz and most likely toilet humour. ***** (Mirror). **** (Chortle.co.uk).

Daisy Earl: Fairy Elephant (Preview)

Hotly anticipated debut from promising newcomer. Winner of Scottish Comedian of the Year and Chortle's Best Newcomer. Daisy woke up on her 30th Birthday deeply dissatisfied. Why isn't she thinner, more successful, and blonde? And why does that cow on Instagram have it all? This year is going to be different; get sober, stop crying in public and for god's sake get a boyfriend! This is one woman's attempt to change everything about herself: 'Impressive. Vulnerability but awakening steeliness' (Scotsman). 'Equal parts deprecation and defiant attitude. Hilarious' (Chortle.co.uk)

LIVE MUSIC: Niall Kelly

Immersion in London’s blues scene helped establish this affable Northern Irishman as a songwriter of focus and expression, channelling Celtic warmth wrapped in melodic dexterity and lyrical perception. Music that melds folk and country with the blues, in 2017 it attracted the ear of The Beautiful South’s Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott who booked Niall’s band on a sold out, national Irish tour - something of a homecoming for this son of Derry who had moved across the water!

BROCKLEY MAX 2019 PRESENTS: RODNEY CROMWELL AND SWEET MACHINE

FREE ENTRY - Join us for an evening of the finest Synthpop sounds in South East London and beyond!

Rodney Cromwell
Rodney Cromwell, Catford’s only exponent of indie pound-shop synthpop, evocative sound looks to the proto-electronica of the 70’s and 80’s to construct a twisted soundtrack for the post-truth world. Sonically his music sits somewhere between Kraftwerk, New Order and The Cure, and contemporary synth acts such as Black Marble and Advisory Circle.

Rodney Cromwell is the project of Adam C Cresswell founder member of folktronica band SALOON who were John Peel darlings; they recorded three Peel Sessions, had four Festive 50 hits including the number one in 2002 and released three albums on Track & Field (UK) and Darla Records (US). He followed Saloon with Arthur and Martha the acclaimed tweetronica duo as featured by The Guardian, NME, Artrocker and others.
